Learn about how we can work with fungi to remove contamination from the environment. From plastics to heavy metals, fungi may hold the key towards a healthy future!

In this workshop you’ll become aware of the ways that fungi are already changing the world and how they can help us return to living reciprocally with the Earth. This class is an introduction to mycoremediation with information on:

  • WHY FUNGI: Understanding the properties of fungi that make them anti-pollution powerhouses.

  • PROBLEMATIC PLASTICS: Learn about the current challenges facing plastic recycling.

  • THE MYCO-RECYCLER: An introduction to the living recycler that can be made at home to keep contamination out of nature.

  • ENGAGING IN COMMUNITY INTELLIGENCE: Experience how Spore Corps operates as a communal network, sharing resources, knowledge, and support to ensure collective success.

WHAT TO BRING

We encourage those attending the class to bring notebooks, a large glass jar, and gumption! We will be providing the necessary materials to build your very own desktop myco-recycler to see the process unfold before your very eyes.

WHAT YOU’LL TAKE HOME

Every participant will leave with an understanding of the importance of and role we play as a community towards:

  • A Myco-Recycler Mini!

  • Creating and sharing ideas via education, awareness, and passion

  • A perspective shift on the role plastic itself plays in the environment as an extension of the human biome

This workshop is designed to spark curiosity and inspire.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Hector is studying at Texas State University in pursuit of dual degrees in Biology and Philosophy with focus on Fungi, Metaphysics, Politics, and Love. He firmly believes that not only is observation primary to understanding, but also that community-centered communication of observations is critically tied to progression of ideas, and hopes to spark this curiosity in others to be integrated in our lives and understand the relationship life itself has to the abstractions of reality.
