Huitlacoche Cultivation Experiment

Let’s get smutty, CTMS! We have spore syringes available for anyone who has planted corn. Fill out the form below to get connected with the spore syringes to inoculate your corn.

To learn more about huitlacoche, check out this detailed blog post. There are two viable corn planting seasons for huitlacoche in Central Texas, one is early spring, around February or March; the next is planting around July. The key is to have your corn mature when the daily outside high temperature is around 90 degrees. Learn more about last year’s inoculation process here.

Check out our workshop with Anamaria of Este Garden for tips for growing corn, the most important step in cultivating huitlacoche and a quick overview of inoculation.

PS - Response times may vary based on the season and spore availability, but even if you don’t hear from us immediately, we’ll keep you in mind as we plan further events.
