Join us for a Members & Friends Happy Hour and try a special Meridian menu of mushroom infused mocktails and cocktails. Learn how to be come a members or how to become an automatic member by volunteering with different programs like our Mushroom Block Recycling, Community Cookbook and the Myco Research Station. We will also have mushroom blocks for everyone to take home and upcycle!

Happy Hour and music from Blue Tongue is free and open to the public. Afterwards we will begin the workshop at 6 p.m. Ticket holders will go home with with an in-process half pint jar containing 80% alcohol of lion’s mane and wild reishi. After a week, you can extract that into a tincture and use it as-is or perform the double extraction step. We will demonstrate three ways to extract and will provide digital links to the step-by-step process.

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn:

  • Which mushrooms are considered to be “functional” or “medicinal” to humans

  • What are the reported health benefits (or downsides) to consuming functional mushrooms

  • Which compounds that exist in mushrooms are reportedly beneficial to our health

  • Where to find the latest published research

  • What is a mushroom “extract” or “tincture”

  • Single, Double and Triple Extraction methods for obtaining your desired compounds

  • A repeatable process and formula that you can use to create future extracts

WHAT TICKET HOLDERS WILL TAKE HOME

Each participant leaves with an in-process half pint jar containing 80% alcohol of lion’s mane and wild reishi. After a week, you can extract that into a tincture and use it as-is or perform the double extraction step. About the Instructor

My name is Scout (they/them), and I'm a mushroom enthusiast. I live in Austin, TX and moved here from the hill country to learn more about mycology in 2021. I'm passionate about exploring and protecting the natural world, but my love for fungi began in 2015 when I found reishi for the first time. That's when I learned there are health benefits that we can get from mushrooms, and I started to go out foraging, and making my own tinctures and capsules. I then joined a mycological group (Central Texas Mycological Society) in 2020 and learned that I wanted to work on a mushroom farm, so I worked at Smallhold and later at Hi-Fi Mycology, while also teaching mycology 101 classes and leading mushroom walks. While I'm not an expert in mycology I know I deeply desire to share with the world how fascinating mycology is, and to end mycophobia.
