Lead Researcher and Project Coordinator
April holds a BS in physics from the University of Texas and has worked various STEM roles from Electrical Engineer to Data Scientist. She fell in love with fungi about a year and a half ago and has since devoted her life to our fungal friends. She is currently leading multiple mycorrhizae-focused research projects for the Central Texas Mycological Society’s (CTMS) Healthy Soils Healthy Trees (HSHT) program, and co-leading a DNA project in collaboration with CTMS and Austin Community College. She also creates data visualizations for the Ohio Mushroom DNA Lab and the DNA-NAMA committee.
Angel Schatz
Communications
Angel Schatz radiates passion for understanding the ecosystem of central Texas and making mycology education accessible to anyone who shares interest. She is also a member of leadership team of Austin Organic Gardeners; harmonizing vegetable gardening and mushroom growing, particularly by using recycled mushroom blocks. Formally an experience designer and animator in the tech world, she hopes to inspire more people dial into the wood-wide-web.
louis keller
Soil Scientist & Consultant
In this role, he helps educate the community about the importance of fungal rich soils in supporting thriving tree populations amidst drought and increasing heat. Outside of this role, Louis is a passionate soil microscopist. He assesses soils using the principles of the soil food web, a framework that examines complex interactions between the different soil microbial trophic levels.

Eric Paulus is the Operations Director at Ecology Action’s Circle Acres Nature Preserve. Before joining Ecology Action, Eric owned a small farm and plant nursery called Regeneration Eco-Farm.
