Learn how to upcycle mushroom blocks to grow more mushrooms, build soil, clean-up contamination and more!

Join Angel Schatz for a myceliating talk on the Mushroom Block Giveaway program that has grown the Central Texas Mycology into one of the most active myco clubs in North America. This talk will explore the profound impact of community-driven, sustainability efforts, focusing on the unique intersection of local ecology and urban agricultural practices. Learn how how you can help divert organic matter from the waste stream, and turn it into valuable resources for your home and community. Discover the latest research and examples of ways the community are using the blocks to:

  1. Grow Culinary Mushrooms: Techniques for cultivating delicious and nutritious mushrooms and cycle nutrients at the same time.

  2. Feed Plants and Wildlife: Use mushroom blocks to feed the soil food web and feed livestock and wildlife.

  3. Build Water-Saving and Fungal-Rich Soil: Create easy and sustainable compost solutions that conserve water and improve soil quality.

  4. Clean Up Contamination: Discover research on the power of mycoremediation to detoxify and restore polluted environments.

Empower yourself with practical skills to promote sustainability, enhance food security, and contribute to a healthier ecosystem. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced gardener, this workshop offers valuable insights for everyone. Everyone will go home with mushroom blocks to upcycle. Sign up today and join the movement to upcycle and become more fungal!
