ABOUT THE TALK

What do Mario Bros, Banksy, and Alice in Wonderland have in common? Very mush! Angel Schatz from Central Texas Mycological Society will explore art, religion, alchemy and how mushrooms were first used and then removed in western culture leading eventually to the war on drugs which is really a war on nature, a tool implemented by the ruling class to maintain power and suppress others. She'll explain how the spiritual was replaced with the material and the collective consciousness was replaced with individualism and how art as a commodity grew out of this paradigm.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Angel Schatz is a forager, urban homesteader, and mycophile, and she serves as one of the lead organizers of the Central Texas Mycological Society. An inspiring and passionate educator, she strives to make mycology accessible to everyone, particularly those in Central Texas. She’s also a part of the Austin Organic Gardeners’ leadership team, harmonizing vegetable gardening and mushroom growing, particularly by using recycled mushroom blocks. Follow her mycelial and gardening adventures on Instagram @forage.atx and be sure to check out the Central Texas Mycological Society to learn more about their rad community events and resources.
