Cool down and myceliate with us and let’s talk aquatic fungi. Dive into the refreshing spring waters of the San Marcos River. This is our version of the classic mushroom walk, but with a splash!

What to Expect:
This will be a communal adventure for all ages. We'll gather for a community picnic, so bring your favorite mushie dish to share and enjoy the potluck-style on the waters edge. We'll be providing several mushroom treats for everyone to try. It’s also chicken-of-the-woods season so we will definitely be bringing some of our favorite recipes.

After we eat, the real exploration begins. We'll wade, swim, and snorkel along the river, keeping our eyes peeled for fungi growing on the banks and submerged wood. This riparian zone is a fantastic habitat for unique species, and we'll discuss the often-overlooked origins and roles of fungi in aquatic ecosystems.

Over the next couple of months, our guest speakers will be focusing on the theme of "being one with the water," and this swim will be a perfect, immersive kickoff to that conversation.

What to Bring:

  • Swimsuit, snorkel, and mask (if you have them) for swimming and underwater observation.

  • A dish to share for the community picnic (finger foods, sides, or desserts are great).

  • Water shoes or old sneakers for navigating the riverbed, we also will walk on sidewalks and streets

  • Sunscreen, towel, and a refillable water bottle.

  • Your curiosity and a sense of adventure!

Included for All Attendees:
Every participant will receive a mushroom block to take home and grow your own fungi!

Location: Meet-up location will be sent to registered attendees the day before the event.

Come be part of the community, get in the water, and see the river from a fungal perspective!
