Join us at the Farmer Veteran Coalition Conference for a special conference session featuring Angel Schatz, from the Mycological Society.

In her talk, "Mushrooms Rising: New Frontiers in Food, Medicine, and Sustainable Agriculture," Angel will explore the powerful role of fungi in creating resilient healthy soil. Discover how mushrooms offer innovative opportunities for diversified income, soil regeneration, and veteran wellness.

Learn about:

  • Market trends in functional foods and mycelium-based materials.

  • The latest medical and therapeutic research relevant to veteran well-being.

  • Our community powered Block Upcycling Program, which provides resources directly to farms.

  • Practical tips for integrating mushroom cultivation into your agricultural operation.

This session is a must-attend for veteran farmers looking to grow, diversify, and connect with fungi and cutting-edge agricultural practices.

I will be bringing mushroom grow blocks to upcycle for everyone in attendance. Donate and learn how to use them here.

About the Speaker

I grew up in Missouri with ten siblings, and the first mushroom I ever learned was fittingly the Destroying Angel. It was my introduction to how powerful and mysterious fungi can be.

Before the society, I worked as an experience designer and animator in the tech world but eventually, I left that world to plug into a very different kind of network: the earth’s internet, mycelium. Now I’m a forager, urban gardener, and mycology educator.

Through , I get to share my passion for the ecosystems of Central Texas and help people connect to the fungal kingdom in ways that are joyful, practical, and community-powered. Whether we’re growing mushrooms from recycled blocks or helping trees survive drought through mycorrhizal fungi—we’re building soil and solidarity.
