An entangled world of vibrant symbiosis exists all around us - growing on tree trunks, gravestones, and embedded into the concrete that builds our world. Knitting us together in quiet harmony, lichens are not simply fungi and algae living together. Their relationship challenges our understanding of what constitutes a species and what can be created when the lines between beings are blurred. In this talk, we’ll dive into the wild world of lichens, interspecies beings whose partnership not only gives them the ability to thrive in the most hostile environments but also the power to seed entire ecologies and landscapes. Andrea Julian is a naturalist, educator and myco enthusiast with an interest in the relationship between living things and the environments that shape them. Her work is rooted in the ecologies of the central Texas creeks and canyons she was raised in.
