Unlock the hidden potential of one of nature’s most powerful allies—mushrooms. In Performance Enhancing Fungi, instructor Cody Masters guides students through the fascinating world of medicinal mushrooms. From ancient traditions to modern-day applications, this class explores how fungi can support human health, enhance performance, and promote overall well-being.

We’ll begin with a journey through history, tracing the use of mushrooms by ancient civilizations—from Ötzi the Iceman’s birch polypore to the sacred rituals of the Aztecs and Maya, and the medicinal practices of Native American tribes. From there, we’ll dive into the science behind the most well-researched functional mushrooms, including Reishi, Lion’s Mane, Cordyceps, Turkey Tail, Chaga, and Agarikon.

Students will learn about the powerful bioactive compounds found in mushrooms—such as beta-glucans, terpenoids, ergosterol, and cordycepin—and how they interact with the body on a cellular level to support immunity, brain function, energy, recovery, and more. We’ll also explore the emerging role of mushrooms in skincare, their adaptogenic properties, and how they compare to conventional supplements.

The class will also equip you with the knowledge to navigate the crowded supplement market. You’ll learn how to identify high-quality products, understand extract ratios, avoid mycelium-grown fillers, and recognize trustworthy brands.

Whether you're a wellness enthusiast, an athlete looking for natural recovery support, or simply curious about the healing power of fungi, this class offers a deep, evidence-based look at how mushrooms can transform your health.

About the Instructor

My name is Cody Masters. I became obsessed with mushrooms after my first experience at 16 years old, really opening my mind to the endless possibilities of the universe. I began growing mushrooms when I was 18, after ordering spores from the back page of a High Times magazine. 17 years ago, there wasn’t much information available except for a couple of books and one online forum called shroomery.org. From there, I taught myself multiple different cultivation techniques that eventually led to me cultivating one of the rarest and most expensive mushrooms on the planet, Cordyceps, and starting my business, Masters Mushrooms.
