Learn how to make an excellent soil amendment in your own backyard by joining us in this hands-on workshop where we will learn about Johnson-Su Bioreactors together! A Johnson-Su Bioreactor is a low-maintenance, passive composting system that yields highly fungal compost! This design was created by husband-wife duo, Dr. David Johnson and Hui Chun Su, during Johnson's PhD research at New Mexico State University. The method has since been modified to become very easy for backyard compost making.
In this workshop, we’ll build multiple bioreactors together and discuss why and how the bioreactor works, as well as how to successfully build, maintain, and use the compost in a yard or garden.

About the Windsor Park Community Garden
Built on a foundation of organic gardening principles, the garden once flourished with active beds, a neighborhood-accessible free garden, communal farm rows, a public composting program, and collaborations with the Windsor Park Library and the Child Development Center next door.
In recent years, the garden has fallen into disrepair as membership declined and the challenges of managing such a large space increased. But a new chapter is beginning.
We are currently restoring the garden with renewed energy and a deep commitment to accessibility, sustainability, and community. The revitalized space will include newly rebuilt personal beds—some of them raised for gardeners with physical limitations—as well as shaded gathering areas, plus pollinator and native grassland gardens.
